Totally Funtabulous

Peace out, summer. Hellllloooo fall.

Peace out, summer. Hellllloooo fall.

I absolutely love this time of year. The sun is still shining, but it’s no longer matched with harsh rays of sun beating us into a sweaty pulp. Instead, it’s complemented with crisp air, a brisk breeze, and the sound of dry leaves crushing and crunching under our feet. Top that with the fact it’s football season, and who wouldn’t fall in love with fall? I’m not a huge country music fan, but I appreciate a good song when it comes along. This new one by Kenny Chesney salutes the season–both autumn and football–called... READ »

To Kill a Mockingbird

To Kill a Mockingbird

This is my favorite book of all times. I’ve read it at least 15 times, and I’ve seen the movie about 12 times. I even tried to listen to the audio book, but that was overkill. I don’t know what it is about this story, but I never get bored with it. This is my favorite paragraph from the whole book: Maycomb was a tired old town, even in 1932 when I first knew it. Somehow, it was hotter then. Men’s stiff collars wilted by nine in the morning; ladies bathed before noon, after their 3 o’clock naps, and by nightfall were... READ »

Married. With Children.

A lot of people are married to their job. I’m married to my husband. And my job. Two-timer? I think not. I am proud to say I’ve mastered the art of work-life balance. Top off the job and the husband with two kids under the age of three, and yeah…I’m a busy chick. But I’m a busy BALANCED chick. And I’m totally lovin’ life. Check out my fam…  READ »

A shot in the dark

I don’t know about you, but food has always been a comfort to me. Especially warm food in the fall. I’m talking soup, stew, mashed potatoes, banana bread…

Unfortunately, I’m not the best cooker or baker in the world. So when I come across simple recipes, I hang on to them for dear life. Here’s one I found for banana bread that makes it taste like scratch. Even though it’s really from a box. Enjoy!

1 box yellow cake mixBanana_Walnut_Bread

3-5 bananas

3 eggs

1/3 cup vegetable oil

nuts (optional)

Mix it all together, put into one large loaf pan or two small loaf pans, bake for 30 minutes at 350. Then eat!

Lately, I’ve found that some of my very best and most trusted friends are ones that I don’t even see face-to-face. I see them on Facebook.

How is it that we can get so close to people that we aren’t even geographically close to at all? I’ve found there’s just something more intimate about finding a connection with someone online and being able to talk back and forth with them at any one point in the day, from any location in the world. Whatever it is, I hope it keeps up. This is definitely my kind of friendship. There’s no awkward pauses to fill. No idle chit chat about the weather. When we “talk,” it’s meaningful, thoughtful, and to the point.

Recently, I ran into one of my “virtual” friends at Target (of course!). Can I tell you how awkward it was? We had absolutely nothing to talk about. Yet the next day, on Facebook, there we were again chatting away and exchanging advice. Never even acknowledging our real-life encounter with a “great to see you yesterday.” Why lie, right?

Some people may frown upon Facebook, and say we’ve all lost that human touch. I say be gone with it. There’s too many germs out there anyway. Long live virtual relationships, my friends.

I’ll see you soon. Online.

The day was twenty-four hours long, but it seemed longer. There was no hurry, for there was nowhere to go and nothing to buy… and no money to buy it with.
